Golos Sotsial-Demokrata

(Voice of the Social Democrat), a journal, central foreign organ of the Men-sheviks; issued in Geneva and then in Paris from February 1908 to December 1911.

Golos sotsial-demokrata was issued monthly at first, then at irregular intervals. A total of 26 issues were published. From June 1911 to July 1912, six issues of Listok Golosa sotsial-demokrata (Leaflet of the Voice of the Social Democrat) were published at irregular intervals. The editors included P. B. Aksel’rod, F. I. Dan, Iu. O. Martov, A. S. Marty nov, and G. V. Plekhanov. In December 1908, Plekhanov, to all intents and purposes, broke with the journal, and on May 13, 1909, he officially left the editorial board because he disagreed with its position. Beginning with its first issue, Golos sotsial-demokrata defended the position of the liquidators, justifying their anti-party line: the renunciation of an independent policy for the proletariat, the alliance of the proletariat with the liberal bourgeoisie, the liquidation of the illegal party (RSDLP), and so forth.
