Golubev, Viktor Maksimovich

 

Born Jan. 4 (17), 1916, in Petrograd; died May 17, 1945. Soviet pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union (Aug. 12. 1942, and Aug. 24, 1943), major (1943). Became a member of the CPSU in 1942.

The son of a worker, Golubev joined the Soviet Army in 1936. He graduated from the Kharkov Military Aviation School in 1939. During the Great Patriotic War he was a pilot, commander of a squadron, and a navigator in the 285th Attack Aviation Regiment. He participated in the fighting at Smolensk, Rostov-on-Don, and Kharkov and at the battle of Kursk. In 1943 he was a student at the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Academy. He died in the line of duty. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War Second Class, the Order of the Red Star, and medals.
