Geneva Conference of 1927
Geneva Conference of 1927
a conference of the foreign ministers of Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and Japan. It was held in Geneva on June 14-16 on the initiative of British foreign minister Austen Chamberlain.
At the Geneva Conference of 1927, which took place in an atmosphere of anti-Soviet hysteria whipped up by imperialist propaganda, Chamberlain proposed the publication of a joint declaration “against Comintern propaganda and its ties with the Soviet government.” However, the plan of the ruling circles of Great Britain to prepare united anti-Soviet action by imperialist forces failed, owing to conflicts between the participants at the conference and the desire of some of them to preserve and expand economic relations with the USSR.
