Gonionemus Vertens
an invertebrate animal of class Hydrozoa, phylum Coelenterata. The umbrella of the medusa is transparent and yellowish-green with a diameter of 15–18 mm (sometimes to 25 mm). Along the edge of the umbrella there are approximately 80 tentacles with stinging cells, whose poisonous products cause a severe burn in man; fatal cases have been known. G. vertens is found in the Sea of Japan and off the shores of the Kuril Islands, usually inhabiting the shoals in thickets of eelgrass.
