gamma-glutamyl hydrolase γ-glu·tam·yl hy·dro·lase (glū'tam'il hī'drō-lās), An enzyme that catalyzes the removal of l-glutamyl residues from pteridine oligoglutamates; used in certain antitumor treatments. Synonym(s): carboxypeptidase G, γ-glutamate (glutamate γ-) carboxypeptidaseGGH A gene on chromosome 8q12.3 that encodes gamma-glutamyl hydrolase, which progressively removes gamma-glutamyl residues from pteroyl poly-gamma-glutamate to yield pteroyl-alpha-glutamate (folic acid) and free glutamate. GGH may play a key role in ensuring the bioavailability of dietary pteroylpolyglutamates and in the metabolism of pteroylpolyglutamates and antifolates. |
