Gandzha Treaty of 1735

a treaty between Russia and Iran signed on Mar. 10 (21), 1735, near Gandzha, now Kirovabad. The Russian government, preparing for war with Turkey, was interested in an alliance with Iran and thus returned to Iran Derbent and Baku and their surrounding provinces. Iran attempted to prevent Derbent and Baku from falling under the domination of any other country and to continue the war with Turkey until all the territories seized by the Turks had been won back. Both sides also agreed to refrain from any separate negotiations with the Turks and to draw up the terms of the eventual peace with Turkey jointly. They also agreed to observe the terms of the Treaty of Rasht of 1732, according to which Russia had returned Gilan to Iran and Iran had agreed, in the event of the kingdom of eastern Georgia being won back from the Turks, to restore it to the Kartlian king.
