Georgii Afonskii

 

Born 1009; died 1065. Georgian church writer and prior of the Iberian Laura (Monastery) on Athos.

During the reign of Bagrat IV, Georgii Afonskii was in charge of carrying out reforms in the church and political life of feudal Georgia. He translated Greek books into Georgian and restored the correct texts of many books. Georgii Afonskii’s principal work is the Life of the Founders of the Athos Iberian Monastery, loann and His Son Evfim.
