Georgii Asatiani
Asatiani, Georgii Iraklievich
Born May 28 (June 10), 1914, in Borzia, Chita Oblast. Soviet producer and cameraman for documentary films. People’s Artist of the USSR (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1940.
Asatiani has worked in films since 1937; he was a frontline cameraman. In the 1950’s and 1960’s he combined camera work and producing, making the films Journey to Nepal (1959), Raznoetazhnaia Amerika (Many Levels of America; 1961), Land of the Moroccans and Sahara (both 1962), Birth of the Republic (1963), Roads of the Fifth Continent and Uruguay (both 1964), Paris . . . Paris (1967), In the Land of the Incas (1968), Beyond the Equator Between the Oceans (1969), and others. He wrote the scenarios for a number of these films. He has been awarded five orders and also medals.
