Georgii Evgrafov

Evgrafov, Georgii Konstantinovich

Born Aug. 22 (Sept. 3), 1895, in Kronstadt; died Aug. 19, 1967, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in bridge construction, professor (1934), and doctor of technical sciences (1938). Became a member of the CPSU in 1950.

Evgrafov graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Railroad Transportation Engineers in 1922. From 1930 to 1967 he was head of the subdepartment of bridges of the Moscow Institute of Railroad Transportation Engineers. His main works are devoted to investigation of the performance of bridges under load and to developing methods for computation in bridge design. He participated in the planning of a number of important bridges, including the Krymskii, Kalinin, and subway bridges in Moscow and bridges over the Oka at Gorky, the Dnieper at Zaporozh’e, and the Volga at Saratov. He was awarded the Order of Lenin and four other orders, as well as medals.
