Georgii Merchuli

 

Years of birth and death unknown. Georgian writer of the tenth century.

In 951, Georgii Merchuli wrote the Life of St. Grigorii Khandzteli (a church leader), which is marked by high artistic merit, a casual tone, and a light style. The author realistically describes the characteristic aspects of daily life in the secular feudal society of the ninth century. Several romantic stories are included in the Life.
