Garami, Ernö

 

Born 1876, in Budapest; died there in 1935. Hungarian political and government figure.

Garami became a member of the leadership of the Social Democratic Party of Hungary in 1898 and was a leader of its opportunist right wing. From 1905 to 1918 he was editor in chief of the central organ of the party, the newspaper Nép-szava. From Oct. 31, 1918, to Mar. 21, 1919, he was minister of trade in the Károlyi government. After the proclamation of the Hungarian Soviet Republic of 1919 he emigrated to Switzerland. From 1919 to 1923 he was editor of the newspaper Jövö, which was published in Vienna. After 1929 he edited Népszava in Hungary.
