Furacin

(in Russian, furatsilin), a medicinal preparation of the nitrofuran group. Furacin has an antimicrobial effect on staphylococci, streptococci, and dysenteric bacilli. It is applied externally in the form of a solution or ointment for the treatment and prevention of suppurative inflammatory processes, the irrigation of wounds, and the lavage of cavities; it is prescribed for internal use in tablet form for the treatment of bacterial dysentery. Furacin is also a component of such antiseptic preparations as the liquid Furaplast and the Soviet ointments Fastin 1 and Fastin 2.
