Gogland
Sur-Sari, an island in the Finnish Gulf of the Baltic Sea (southwest of Vyborg). Included in the Leningrad Oblast of the RSFSR. Area, approximately 21 sq km. Altitude reaches 158 m.
Gogland is formed of crystalline rock. It is known as the place where the first wireless was set up (Feb. 6, 1900, under the direction of A. S. Popov). The Gogland battle of 1788 between the Russian and Swedish fleets took place near the island.
