Gnezdovo Inscription

 

the oldest Russian inscription (mid-tenth century), found in one of the Gnezdovo burial mounds by D. A. Avdusin in 1949. It consists of the single word goroushna, in modern Russian gorchitsa (mustard), scratched on the surface of a previously fired clay vessel.
