Georgiu-Dezh
(until 1943, Svoboda; until 1965, Liski), a city (since 1937) in Voronezh Oblast, RSFSR; a port on the Don River and a junction on the Voronezh-Millerovo and Valuiki-Povorino railroad lines. Population, 49,000 (1970). It has food-industry enterprises (a meat combine, an oil extraction plant, and a sugar refinery), railroad enterprises, and an assembly plant (cranes, jacks, and so on). There is a railroad technicum. The city was renamed in honor of G. Gheorghiu-Dej.
