释义 | Gore, Al, Jr.Gore, (Albert Arnold) Al, Jr.(1948– ) vice-president, U.S. senator; born in Washington, D.C. His father, Albert Gore, was a Democratic representative and senator from Tennessee. Albert Jr. graduated from Harvard (1969) and served as an army reporter in Vietnam. He served in the House of Representatives (Dem., Tenn.; 1977–85) and the U.S. Senate (Dem., Tenn.; 1985–93). He made an unsuccessful run for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination; in 1993 he became vice-president under Bill Clinton. Especially noted for his interest in environmental issues, he wrote Earth in the Balance: Healing the Global Environment (1992). He also worked to cut back on government bureaucracy. |
