Fringing Forest

(or gallery forest), a forest located in a narrow strip along rivers flowing through treeless areas such as steppes, prairies, savannas, and deserts. The tropical forests along rivers in the savannas of Africa and the grasslands of South America are typical fringing forests. In Middle Asia fringing forests are called tugaic forests, or tugai.
