Geister

 [gīs´ter] Janet M. (1885–1964). American nursing writer, editor, researcher, and consultant. As a field worker for the U.S. Children's Bureau, she conducted surveys of infant and maternal mortality in Chicago, Montana, and Kentucky. During World War I she made one of the first studies of children's day care centers and helped develop a mobile clinic to bring health care to isolated rural areas. She also conducted studies of nursing education, visiting nursing, and hospitals for the National Organization for Public Health Nursing and was active in a number of professional organizations.
