acyl-activating enzyme

long-chain fat·ty ac·id:CoA li·gase

(long-chān fat'ē as'id lī'gās), Fatty acid thiokinase (long-chain), a ligase forming acyl-CoA, AMP, and pyrophosphate from long-chain fatty acids, ATP, and coenzyme A. Synonym(s): acyl-activating enzyme (1) , dodecanoyl-CoA synthetase

acyl-activating enzyme

An older term for protein which is recognised as three distinct enzymes:
(1) Acetate-CoA ligase [EC 6.2.1.1] (Acetate:CoA ligase (AMP-forming));
(2) Butyrate-CoA ligase [EC 6.2.1.2] (Butanoate:CoA ligase (AMP-forming)); and
(3) Long-chain-fatty-acid-CoA ligase [EC 6.2.1.3] (Long-chain-fatty-acid-CoA:ligase (AMP-forming)).
