[′jel·ət·ən ′dī·nə‚mīt] (materials) A high explosive consisting mainly of a jellylike mass of nitroglycerin, with sodium nitrate, meal, collodion cotton, and sodium carbonate; commonly used by drillers to shatter boulders encountered in driving pipe through overburden, especially in water-filled or saturated ground.
