Frolov, Andrei Ignat’evich

Born Oct. 11 (23), 1892, in the village of Nizovka, now part of the village of Napol’noe, Po-retskoe Raion, Chuvash ASSR; died July 12, 1918, in Kizyl-Arvat. Fought to establish Soviet power in Middle Asia. Member of the Communist Party from April 1917.

During World War I, Frolov was conscripted into the army, and in 1916 he carried out revolutionary work among the soldiers in Samarkand. In 1917 he led the Samarkand group of Bolsheviks. He was a delegate to the First and Second All-Russian Congresses of Soviets. In November 1917 he became chairman of the Samarkand soviet. In 1918, Frolov was appointed extraordinary commissar of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Turkestan ASSR for Transcaspian Oblast. On June 20, 1918, he led a detachment of Red Army soldiers sent to Kizyl-Arvat to suppress a counterrevolutionary revolt by Socialist Revolutionaries. Frolov died in combat.
