释义 | Fromm ErichFrommF0336100 (frōm, frŏm), Erich 1900-1980.Fromm ErichFromm Erich(1900-80) German-born radical social psychologist and psychoanalytical theorist, and onetime member of the FRANKFURT SCHOOL OF CRITICAL THEORY, who moved to America in 1934. In his best-known book, Fear of Freedom (1941), Fromm argued that human beings often lack the psychological resources to cope with individual freedom, suggesting that the rise of fascism could be, at least in part, explained by a longing for a return to the authoritarianism of pre-individualistic society. The solution proposed by Fromm was spontaneous love: the affirmation of others. In The Sane Society (1955), he argued that technological growth without altruism would be socially destructive. Fromm wrote many other works reiterating these, his main themes. See also NEO-FREUDIANS. |
