Ginsberg Morris

(1889-1970) Lithuanian-born sociologist and social philosopher who continued in the footsteps of HOBHOUSE as professor of sociology at the London School of Economics. At LSE, and as one of only the small number of British professors of sociology in the interwar years, Ginsberg's teaching and work (including Essays in Sociology and Social Philosophy 1956; Sociology, 1934) influenced generations of British sociologists. The relatively ungrounded moralizing tone of much his work now appears outmoded. His work can be seen as the end of a tradition associated with Hobhouse, rather than as pointing in any new directions.
