Giorgio Candeloro
Candeloro, Giorgio
Born Mar. 20, 1909, in Bologna. Italian Marxist historian. The son of an office worker.
Candeloro studied at the University of Rome. During World War II he was a member of the Party of Action and was active in the anti-Fascist struggle: he fought in the ranks of the Italian resistance movement in 1943–44 against the Hitlerite occupiers. Candeloro joined the Italian Communist Party in 1947 and was among the leadership of the Roman federation of the Italian Communist Party from 1956 to 1961. Candeloro is a privatdocent in the history of political doctrines. He taught history and philosophy in Roman secondary schools for many years and became a professor at the University of Pisa in 1972.
