Giovanni Amendola

Amendola, Giovanni

Born 1886; died Apr. 6, 1926. Italian political figure and publicist. Became a parliamentary deputy in 1919.

After World War I, Amendola led the left wing of the Liberal Party. In 1924 he became one of the leaders of the antifascist Aventine bloc. After the bloc was defeated in its struggle against fascism, he maintained liberal republican positions. In July 1925 he was viciously beaten by a band of fascists. He died in exile in France.
