Gas Firebox

Gas Firebox

the firebox of a boiler or industrial furnace; equipped with gas burners designed for burning gas fuel. The advantages of a gas firebox are simplicity of service and the absence of slag. Fireboxes in high-capacity boilers are often designed for burning two kinds of fuel—gas-mazut or coal-gas—for which combined gas-mazut or dust-gas burners are used. The main gas boiler fuel is natural gas; blast-furnace gas and generator gas are also used in furnaces.
