Drugs used to induce and maintain GENERAL ANAESTHESIA. Examples are thiopentone (Thiopental) for induction; etomidate (Hypnomidate) for induction; nitrous oxide, halothane, isoflurane, desflurane and sevoflurane for maintenance; propofol for induction and maintenance; and ketamine (Ketalar) for production of a trance-like dissociative anaesthesia for minor surgical procedures.
