German Aleksandrovich Prudenskii

Born Sept. 10 (23), 1904, in Toropets, now in Kalinin Oblast; died July 23, 1967, in Moscow. Soviet economist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958); Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1964). Member of the CPSU from 1931.

Prudenskii graduated from the N. E. Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School in 1931 and worked as a teacher from 1932 to 1941. He was a subdepartment chairman at the Urals Polytechnical Institute in 1950 and 1951 and served as director of the institute from 1951 to 1955. From 1955 to 1958 he served as deputy chairman of the State Committee on Labor and Wages of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and from 1958 to 1966 was director of the Institute of the Economics and Organization of Industrial Production of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Prudenskii’s main works were devoted to the organization of socialist production, labor productivity, the scientific organization of labor, and the utilization of reserve capacities available within industrial enterprises. Prudenskii also wrote on the distribution of industrial production, the comprehensive development of Siberia and the Far East, and ways of raising the economic efficiency of new enterprises. He was awarded two orders and various medals.
