Excess gas in the GI tract is due to aerophagia or ↑ gas production by intestinal bacteria, which may be facilitated by a deficiency of pancreatic enzymes; gastric gas is accompanied by bloating, pain, eruction, and flatulence; intestinal gas is often accompanied by abdominal distension, flatulence, and hypo- or hypermotility.
