Gas-Regulating Device
Gas-Regulating Device
a device designed to reduce the gas pressure in a gas pipeline and to maintain the pressure at a given level automatically by adjusting the amount of gas passing through a regulating valve.
Gas-regulating devices consist of a regulating valve and sensing and control elements. Some gas-regulating devices have a direct-action mechanism (the throttle valve moves as a result of a change in the terminal pressure). Other gas-regulating devices have an indirect-action mechanism (the sensing element acts on the regulator by means of an independent source of energy—air, gas, or a liquid). Despite the lower sensitivity of direct-action gas-regulating devices as compared to indirect-action devices, they are more widely used in gas-supply systems because of their simple construction and ease of operation. Any change in the gas pressure due to unevenness in bleeding causes the diaphragm to move in the direct-action gas-regulating device, at the same time changing the aperture of the throttle valve, hence decreasing or increasing the quantity of gas passing through the gas-regulating device.
