Antimony Sulfides

Antimony Sulfides

the compounds of antimony with sulfur, namely, Sb2S3 and Sb2S5. Antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) is known in amorphous and crystalline modifications; the crystalline form is the more stable of the two and is encountered in nature as the mineral antimonite. In industry, Sb2S3 is obtained by liquidation from rich antimony ores and is used in producing antimony and antimony compounds and in pyrotechnics. Antimony pentasulfide (Sb2S5) is an amorphous, orange-red powder; it is obtained by the decomposition of the sodium salts of antimonic or thioantimonic acid caused by sulfuric acid and is used as a pigment.
