Frye, Jack

Frye, (William John) Jack

(1904–59) airline executive; born near Sweetwater, Texas. Contributing to the rise of commercial aviation, he encouraged construction of fast, comfortable, modern equipment and devices for safe all-weather flying. As President of Trans World Airlines (1934–47) he fostered international flight. Involved briefly in the film industry, he died in a car crash in Tucson, Ariz.
