Adalbert von Magdeburg

Died June 20, 981. German ecclesiastical and political leader and chronicler; an advocate of the broad plans for eastern expansion of Otto I, German king and emperor.

In 961, Adalbert headed Otto I’s ecclesiastical mission to the court of the Kievan Princess Ol’ga, but nothing came of it. In 968 he became the first archbishop of Magdeburg. Adalbert wrote a continuation (covering the period from 907 to 967) of the Chronicle of Regio of Prüm, who died in 915.
