Iakov Gerasimov

Gerasimov, Iakov Ivanovich

 

Born Sept. 10 (23) 1903, in Valdai. Soviet physical chemist, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953). Member of the CPSU (1952).

After graduating from Moscow State University in 1925, Gerasimov worked there. He was a student of Professor A. V. Rakovskii. His principal works are on the thermodynamics of nonferrous and rare metals and metallic alloys; he became chief editor of Zhurnal fizicheskoi khimii (Journal of Physical Chemistry) in 1954 and chairman of the Scientific Council on Chemical Thermodynamics and Thermochemistry of the Academy of Sciences in the USSR in 1966. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, and medals.
