Grow, Galusha Aaron Grow, Galusha Aaron(1822–1907) U.S. representative; born in Ashford, Conn. He represented Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in two periods (Free-Soil Democrat, 1851–57; Rep., 1857–63; Rep., 1894–1903). He was Speaker of the House (1861–63) and was influential in the passage of the Homestead Act (1862). He engaged in various business interests during his long hiatus from Congress (1863–94). |
