Hooper, C. E. Hooper, C. E. (Claude Ernest)(1898–1954) broadcast audience analyst; born in Kingsville, Ohio. While working in advertising he developed techniques to research radio audiences and in 1938 he founded his own New York firm. His "Hooperatings," based on telephone pollings of listeners, soon became the industry standard, attracting controversy over their methodology and effect on program quality. He sold his national ratings service to A. C. Nielsen in 1950. |
