An antibiotic structurally related to vancomycin, obtained from the fermentation products of the actinomycete Nocardia lurida and now used mainly for the laboratory investigation of blood platelet function; (more fully "ristocetin A", "ristocetin B") either of the two closely related compounds of which this antibiotic is a mixture.
