A river in the Netherlands. In part it is a distributary of the River Rhine, which it leaves at Arnhem, joining the Oude IJssel (‘Old IJssel’) a few kilometres downstream, and flowing 115 km (72 miles) northwards through the eastern Netherlands to the IJsselmeer.
