The phase of Platonism between the period of the Academies and the start of Neoplatonism, i.e. from the middle of the 1st cent. b.c. to about a.d. 200, constituting a revival of Platonic philosophy in systematic and dogmatic form (as against the preceding Academic scepticism), and including Aristotelian and Stoic elements, with some influence of Pythagoreanism (best represented in the writings of Plutarch).
