A poorly characterized uranium mineral, possibly a uranium sulphate, first found near Adrianople (now Edirne), north-west Turkey.
Origin
Mid 19th century. From the name of Abdul Mejid (Mecid in modern Turkish orthography), Ottoman Sultan from 1839–61 + -ite.
