(Originally) any of several mixtures of straight-chain primary alcohols obtained from beeswax and other waxes and containing between 30 and 34 carbon atoms; (now usually) specifically n-triacontanol, CH3(CH2)28CH2OH; also called myricyl alcohol.

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Henry Roscoe (1833–1915), chemist and university administrator.
