- Back when I was a young fashion conscious teenager, (round collared nylon shirts, crimplene flared trousers, and a natty matching tank top), there were no fast food chains as we know them now.
- Some people would clearly look far better and be far more comfortable if they were not encumbered by crimplene trousers, nylon tops and viscose thongs.

1950s: perhaps from the name of the Crimple valley in Yorkshire, site of the ICI laboratory where the fabric was developed, + -ene.
