crush syndrome

A condition caused by reperfusion of a large area of soft tissue, especially muscle, as the pressure on it is released following prolonged severe crushing, resulting in shock and potential kidney failure as large quantities of potassium, myoglobin, and enzymes from the damaged tissue are released into the circulation.
