Of or relating to Mithraism; = Mithraic. Now rare.
Origin
Mid 18th century; earliest use found in William Stukeley (1687–1765), antiquary and natural philosopher. From post-classical Latin Mithriacus from Hellenistic Greek Μιθριακός (modifying μυστήριον mystery) from Μιθρ- + -ιακός, suffix formed from reanalysis of nouns in -ια + suffix -ακός. Compare French mithriaque.
