Used with reference to a type of lepromin testing developed by Mitsuda; (now) (specifically, especially in Mitsuda reaction) designating the delayed type of response to lepromin, consisting of nodular infiltration of the skin developing between one and four weeks, and considered to be a measure of cell-mediated immunity. 2In compounds with the sense ‘in regard to the Mitsuda reaction‘, as Mitsuda-negative, Mitsuda-positive; also Mitsuda positivity. Origin1930s; earliest use found in International Journal Leprosy. From the name of Kensuke Mitsuda, Japanese leprologist, who described a lepromin test around 1919. |
