From Urdu mufaṣṣil, variant of mufaṣṣal (adjective) separated, divided, (noun) subordinate division of a district from Persian mufaṣṣal (adjective and noun) from Arabic mufaṣṣal, passive participle of faṣṣala to divide up, set forth in detail, classify.
