A brownish or greenish variety of andradite garnet containing some manganese and forming crystals with twelve rhomboidal faces.
Origin
Early 19th century. From French aplome from ancient Greek ἁπλοῦς (uncontracted ἁπλόος) simple, so called in allusion to the simplicity of its (supposed) fundamental crystal form.
