Molucca balm

Any of several plants constituting the genus Moluccella (family Lamiaceae (Labiatae)), characterized by large, green funnel-shaped calyces enclosing insignificant flowers; specifically (in full smooth Molucca balm) M. laevis of western Asia, grown for ornament (also called bells of Ireland, shell-flower).

Mid 18th century; earliest use found in Philip Miller (1691–1771), horticulturist and writer.
