A cubic antimonate of lead, iron, and calcium, occurring as yellowish, greyish green, or brownish crystals that are usually octahedral.
Origin
Mid 19th century; earliest use found in James Dana (1813–1895), geologist, zoologist, and teacher. From Swedish monimolit from ancient Greek μόνιμος stable, unchanging + Swedish -lit, so called because the mineral is decomposed with great difficulty.
