Either of two sansevierias, Sansevieria roxburghiana and S. zeylanica, grown in South Asia for the strong white fibre present in their leaves. Also: the fibre produced by either of these plants (more fully moorva fibre).

Plants grown under the name S. zeylanica are often actually other species of the genus Sansevieria (formerly known as Sanseviera)..

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in John Forbes Royle (1798–1858), surgeon and naturalist. From Sanskrit mūrvā.
